AceShowbiz - Following her highly publicized split from Gerard Pique in 2022, Shakira turned to a close friend for support, Coldplay bandleader Chris Martin. In a cover story for Rolling Stone, Shakira revealed how Martin's kindness and empathy played a crucial role in her healing journey.
"He was there for me when I got separated and was heartbroken," said Shakira. "He was checking in every day to see how I was doing, sending me words of support and strength and wisdom."
Martin's sensitive nature impressed Shakira, who described him as "a person who sees life through a different lens, who's sensitive to other people's needs and very empathetic."
The breakup with Pique, with whom she shares two sons, took an emotional toll on Shakira. "The suffering I felt was probably the greatest I had ever experienced in my entire life, and it kept me from functioning at times," she explained.
Shakira later credited her music with helping her heal. "For many months after my separation I had been silent, trying to begin my mourning, but I couldn't really begin to grieve until I started writing music," she said.
The former couple's split was preceded by rumors of cheating, which Shakira described as a painful experience. "It felt like someone had stabbed a hole in my chest," she said. "I physically felt like I had a hole in my chest and that people could see through me."
Martin's support and Shakira's own creative expression have been integral to her healing process. "Grief is a process that is not linear. It is full of peaks and valleys," she said. "But I have hope that I can come out of this stronger."
