AceShowbiz - During a recent episode of "The Breakfast Club", rapper Cordae found himself in the hot seat, challenged by Charlamagne Tha God to address the lukewarm reception of his latest album, "The Crossroads". Charlamagne inquired if Cordae felt his album was a "flop," noting that the project peaked at a modest No. 143 on the US Billboard 200.
Cordae, however, remained unfazed by the critical assessment. "No," Cordae responded when asked if he felt similarly. He elaborated that the scrutiny often comes from YouTube channels driven by negativity, highlighting one instance of a critic he described as "some white boy in Indiana."
He argued that these channels thrive on nitpicking and focusing on an artist's weaknesses. "If you look at channels like that, their whole channel subscribes to a bunch of negativity. That's what they're about so you can nitpick every artist in music. You can find something negative and nitpick at where they lack in some department," Cordae exclaimed. He emphasized that the success of an album should not be determined solely by its initial sales, noting that many successful tours and subsequent growth happen over time. "Why spend all this time focusing on one week? We gonna spend all this time focusing on one week when there are 52 weeks out of the year?"
Furthermore, Cordae discussed how comparisons to mega-stars like Kendrick Lamar are misleading and unfair. He pointed out that when considering his actual peers, the numbers are quite comparable. "If you compare a Cordae first-week sales to Kendrick Lamar's first-week sales, of course, there's a discrepancy. But when it comes to my actual peers that do the type of music that I do, it's all a balance. It's there. We're all doing the same comparative numbers," he remarked.
