Zoe Saldana has poured her heart and soul into her iconic CGI performances only to see traditional award bodies turn a blind eye. Is it time for a change in how such performances are viewed?

AceShowbiz - As a seasoned actress known for her compelling roles in groundbreaking CGI films like "Avatar" and "Guardians of the Galaxy", Zoe Saldana laments the lack of recognition given to CGI performances at prestigious awards shows. In a recent conversation with The Independent, she emphasized that "old habits die hard," especially within established institutions that resist change.
"Not winning is OK, not being nominated is OK," Saldana notes, "but when you're overlooked and then minimized and completely disregarded, it is quite deflating when you give 120 percent of yourself into something."
Saldana's audience-adorning portrayal of Neytiri in James Cameron's "Avatar" series and other renowned sci-fi projects like "Star Trek" frequently went unnoticed by Academy awards, an observation that has sparked much debate. Even though "Avatar" swept several Oscars for its technological achievements, such as best cinematography and visual effects, it received no acting nominations.
Saldana remarked that some detractors attributed her performance merely to the work of technicians, an allegation she firmly refutes, "I know the difference between that and what we did."
Despite this, the actress isn't completely discouraged. She believes it's crucial to introspect on the real motivation behind her craft. "At some point, you have to ask yourself: why is it that I do what I do? Is it so others can give me approval? Or is it because I don't want to do anything else?"
Interestingly, Saldana is currently a top contender in this year's Oscars, owing to her supporting role as Rita in "Emilia Perez". With a career spanning over 25 years, she expressed to The Independent how important this moment is for her. "I can't tell you what this moment means to me," she said, seeing it as the culmination of years of hard work and perseverance.
As technology continues to advance and CGI becomes even more integral to storytelling, perhaps it's time for award bodies to evolve too. Recognizing the talent, dedication, and artistry involved in such performances might not just elevate individual actors but also elevate the entire film industry.
