The project sold 319K album-equivalent units in its first week, securing the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 album chart. It also conquered the Billboard Canadian Albums chart. Popular tracks from the album, including "squabble up," "luther," and "tv off," have maintained their presence in the charts.
The Weeknd expressed his admiration for "GNX" on his Instagram Story, suggesting he has been listening to the album on repeat by showcasing various screenshots of Kendrick's tracks on his playlist.
While this support is not unique, as many other hip-hop and R&B stars like Busta Rhymes, Chris Brown, and Snoop Dogg have also publicly praised Kendrick's latest work, the love shown by The Weeknd stood out due to Drake drama.
It's been well documented that Kendrick and Drama are at odds with each other and Drake even dragged their beef to court by accusing Kendrick's team of manipulating the streams of his single "Not Like Us".
Since their feud exploded, Drake has been throwing subtle disses at some of his peers on and off social media. In one instance, the OVO mogul reportedly stopped popular streamer XQc from playing The Weeknd' song, sparking feud rumors despite both being Canadians.
Kendrick Lamar will next headline 2025 Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans, which drew another controversy of its own with Young Money artist Nicki Minaj and others criticizing NFL for snubbing New Orleans' own rap icon Lil Wayne, who's also Drake's former mentor.
Weezy himself admitted he was hurt by the snub. While Kendrick Lamar didn't issue any statement, he addressed this controversy on "GNX" and prompted a strong reaction from Weezy.
