AceShowbiz - Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie have revealed that the toxic media environment of the early 2000s was the primary catalyst for their feud that led to them filming season 4 of their reality show, "The Simple Life", separately.
During an appearance on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, Richie prefaced their discussion by stating that the real reason wouldn't be "good enough" because nothing significant had actually happened. Hilton then elaborated, explaining that the media loved to create feuds to sell tabloids.
"Back then, the media was just so toxic and they loved starting feuds between people because, obviously, that sold tabloids," Hilton said. "So it was mostly the media just spinning things and creating drama that didn't exist, which was normal in the 2000s. They did it with everyone."
Richie added that their young age at the time exacerbated the situation, as they lacked the communication skills to handle the media's influence. "If we were hearing something, we would assume [it was true]," she admitted.
Looking back, Richie expressed regret over the time they lost due to the feud. "It's sad to think about a time without my friend," she said. "I think it has really helped me [with] communicating at this stage in my life."
Despite the challenges they faced, Hilton and Richie have since mended their friendship, reuniting for a new reality show venture, "The Simple Life: Encore". The show is set to premiere on Peacock on December 12.
