AceShowbiz - In a heartfelt conversation, Jenna Bush Hager expressed her initial shock and sadness upon learning about Hoda Kotb's decision. "I was shocked," she admitted. "Hoda does things. And this is why I admire her so much, is that she really listens to herself."
Kotb, 60, announced her departure from "Today" on September 26, explaining that it was time for a change and to focus on new opportunities. She also revealed that she felt she had reached the "top of the wave" and decided it was the right moment to move on.
During Tuesday's episode, the co-hosts became teary-eyed as they discussed Kotb's exit. Bush Hager declared, "I'm in the phase of losing Hoda called studying." She expressed her desire to observe Kotb's behaviors at an upcoming party to see how she's changed.
Kotb responded with affection, saying, "You know what? I love you. I just love you." The two shared a moment of laughter and tears before Bush Hager acknowledged, "It's the depression stage today."
Bush Hager shared that she has been going through the five stages of grief since Kotb announced her departure. "I've already been through denial," she said. "Denial lasted a good month!"
Craig Melvin will replace Kotb on "Today" during the news portion of the morning, while Bush Hager will "date" different anchors and friends as co-hosts before finding a more permanent replacement.
Kotb's last day on "Today" is set for January 10. In a letter explaining her decision, she wrote, "As I write this, my heart is all over the map. I know I'm making the right decision, but it's a painful one. And you all are the reason why."
