AceShowbiz - After 42 years as the relentless force behind Iron Maiden's thunderous beats, Nicko McBrain announced his retirement from touring, with a concert in Sao Paulo, Brazil serving as his final performance with the band.
"With both sorrow and joy, I announce my decision to step back from the grind of the extensive touring lifestyle," the drummer said in a statement. "I wish the band much success moving forward."
McBrain's tenure with Maiden began in 1982, and over the years, he has become an integral part of the band's identity. He has contributed to numerous platinum and gold-selling albums and has performed in front of millions of fans worldwide.
Despite his decision to retire from touring, McBrain will remain an active member of the Iron Maiden family. He will continue to work on a variety of projects with the band's management, as well as focus on his personal businesses and ventures.
"I look into the future with much excitement and great hope!" McBrain said. "I'll be seeing you soon, may God bless you all, and, of course, 'Up the Irons!'"
Iron Maiden's longtime manager, Rod Smallwood, paid tribute to McBrain's contributions: "Thank you for being an irrepressible force behind the drum kit for Maiden for 42 years and my friend for even longer. I speak on behalf of all the band when I say we will miss you immensely!"
While McBrain has overcome health challenges in recent years, including a stroke in 2023 that affected his drumming abilities, his unwavering determination has allowed him to continue performing at a high level.
Iron Maiden will embark on their Run for Your Lives World Tour in 2025, presumably with a new drummer in place.
