Emmy-winning comedian Sam Richardson will star alongside John Cena and Jessica Biel in Apple's live-action adaptation of the iconic Mattel toy car line, 'Matchbox'.

AceShowbiz - Sam Richardson, known for his acclaimed roles on "Veep" and "Ted Lasso", has signed on to join the cast of "pm=Matchbox]", Apple Original Films' upcoming live-action adaptation of the classic Mattel toy line. John Cena and Jessica Biel are already on board for the project.
Sam Hargrave, director of the "Extraction" action movies, will helm the feature, which is inspired by the Matchbox brand first created in 1953. The toy line, which was acquired by Mattel in 1997, originally competed with Matchbox's die-cast car rival, Hot Wheels.
According to legend, automotive enthusiast Jack Odell designed the first Matchbox car for his daughter, who was only allowed to take a toy to school if it fit inside a matchbox. The brand was born when his daughter's school friends began requesting "matchbox cars."
Plot details for the film remain confidential. The screenplay was written by David Coggeshall (author of "The Family Plan") and Jonathan Tropper (writer of "The Adam Project"). Skydance's David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger will produce alongside Robbie Brenner for Mattel Films and Jules Daly.
Richardson, who has an extensive comedy background, earned nominations for his work on "Veep" and won an Emmy for his supporting role in "Ted Lasso". He has recently appeared in "The Afterparty" and "Hocus Pocus 2".
Richardson will next star in "Star Trek: Section 31" and "Sacrifice" alongside Michelle Yeoh, Chris Evans and Salma Hayek Pinault.
