Despite clarification from the owner, Whoopi Goldberg insists the circumstances surrounding the incident when her birthday cake order was denied by the bakery seemed 'odd.'

AceShowbiz - Whoopi Goldberg has defended her claim that she was refused a birthday dessert order from a bakery due to her political beliefs. The TV personality previously stated that her initial order for Charlotte Russe pastries was declined, allegedly because of her "politics."
Goldberg later got her cake from someone else who placed an order for approximately 50 Charlotte Russe desserts from the bakery.
Holtermann's Bakery in Staten Island, identified as the establishment in question, denied any political motivations. Owner Jill Holtermann explained that the bakery experienced boiler malfunctions at the time of Goldberg's request and could not guarantee the order's fulfillment.
Holtermann countered that she had informed Goldberg of the bakery's difficulty in handling her request. "I said to Whoopi, 'I can't do it right now,' " she said. "We have so many things going on with my boiler,' because the building is from 1930, so, when she called me, I had no idea [if we could] be baking everything."
However, Goldberg insisted in a follow-up video, "It does seem a little odd that when we called a few weeks before my birthday and we were told they couldn't process the order for my birthday because of an equipment failure. But somehow they were able to accept an order of a different 48 of the same dessert when somebody else called without using my name."
Goldberg brushed off the incident and emphasized that it did not spoil her birthday celebration. "It's all okay, y'all, because I enjoyed my delicious dessert and I had a happy, sweet birthday," she said. "Nothing better than that."
