AceShowbiz - A "Game of Thrones" movie is in the early stages of development at Warner Bros., HBO and Max CEO Casey Bloys confirmed. No director, writer, or cast members have been attached to the project yet.
Bloys explained that the team will develop an idea, read scripts, and assess its potential for a theatrical release. He noted that it's still early in the process and emphasized the importance of finding a story worthy of a big-screen spectacle.
George R.R. Martin, the author of the book series that inspired Game of Thrones, is involved in the development of the potential movie.
Bloys addressed Martin's recent criticism of certain story elements in the second season of the prequel series "House of the Dragon". He acknowledged Martin's importance to the franchise but emphasized that adapting his work can be a challenging process. Bloys stated that creative differences can arise, but he values open communication and collaboration.
The "Game of Thrones" universe continues to expand with a third season of House of the Dragon on the way and a new prequel series, "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms", set to debut in 2025.
Despite the development of the movie, other planned Game of Thrones spinoffs have been scrapped, including a Jon Snow series. Bloys indicated that while the Jon Snow spin-off is currently on hold, he would be open to revisiting it in the future if the right story emerges.
