Director Jon M. Chu remains open to returning for another 'G.I. Joe' film, while the franchise prepares for a crossover with 'Transformers: Rise of the Beasts'.

AceShowbiz - Despite the disappointing box office performance of 2021's "Snake Eyes", the "G.I. Joe" film franchise may yet have a future on the big screen. Director Jon M. Chu, who helmed "Snake Eyes", has not ruled out a return.

Speaking recently, Chu expressed his love for the "G.I. Joe" universe and his admiration for Henry Golding's portrayal of "Snake Eyes". However, he also acknowledged his current focus on the "Wicked" franchise. "I'm in 'Wicked' world right now. I mean I love the 'G.I. Joe' world, 'Snake Eyes', all those people. Henry Golding, I loved his version of Snake Eyes," he said.

Meanwhile, the "G.I. Joe" franchise is set to expand into uncharted territory with its crossover in "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts". Director Steven Caple Jr. revealed that the crossover will introduce new characters and explore different factions within the "G.I. Joe" universe.

Henry Golding, who played Snake Eyes, indicated that franchise producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has "grand plans" for the future of "G.I. Joe".

With the "Transformers"-"G.I. Joe" crossover serving as a potential game-changer, it remains to be seen if Chu will ultimately return to the franchise. Should he do so, he would enter a significantly altered landscape, with the two universes now intertwined.

The "Transformers"-"G.I. Joe" crossover officially begins in "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts", which may provide some insight into the potential future of both franchises.
