Mariah Carey will be deposed and questioned under oath regarding her brother's defamation claims after he alleged she made false and damaging statements about him in her 2020 memoir.

AceShowbiz - Superstar singer Mariah Carey will be questioned under oath on January 17 as part of a defamation lawsuit filed by her estranged brother, Morgan Carey. Morgan alleges that Mariah made false and defamatory statements about him in her autobiography, "The Meaning of Mariah Carey", published in 2020.

In his lawsuit filed in 2021, Morgan claims that Mariah lied about his character and actions, including alleging that he was violent towards her and their family, dealt drugs in the 1980s while working at a New York City nightclub, and had been imprisoned. Morgan vehemently denies these accusations and asserts that they have caused significant damage to his reputation.

Carey's memoir paints a different picture, portraying Morgan as a threatening and unsupportive presence in her life. She describes feeling the need to protect herself and her mother from him and refers to him as her "ex-brother."

The deposition, which will be videotaped and take place in the law offices of Morgan's legal team, is expected to focus on these disputed statements. Carey will be required to provide evidence and answer questions regarding her claims.

Morgan's lawyers have also requested that Mariah disclose the identities of the "well-known hairdresser" and "well-known photographer" she claims told her about Morgan's alleged drug dealing.

The lawsuit comes amidst a tragic family situation, as Mariah and Morgan lost both their mother and sister on the same day in August 2024. Morgan claims to have learned about the deaths not from Mariah but from his lawyer.
