AceShowbiz - In a shocking twist of events, renowned rapper Plies has taken legal action against some of the biggest names in hip-hop. According to TMZ Hip Hop, Plies has filed a lawsuit accusing Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, GloRilla and Soulja Boy of copyright infringement. The South Florida rapper claims that these artists have used elements from his 2008 track, "Me & My Goons", without permission.
The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday, November 6, centers around the alleged unauthorized use of what Plies describes as an "infrared countdown beat." Plies claims that Soulja Boy first utilized this beat in his 2010 hit "Pretty Boy Swag", which appeared on Soulja Boy's album "The DeAndre Way". The track peaked at No. 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Fast forward to 2024, and Plies alleges that GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion used a variant of the same beat for their song "Wanna Be" and its remix featuring Cardi B.
"Wanna Be" has garnered significant attention since its release. The track peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped elevate GloRilla's career. The remix's success is also notable, with the track rebounding from No. 39 to No. 15 on the chart after Cardi B's addition in June 2024. The lawsuit names not only the artists but also their production companies and record labels, including Megan's Hot Girl Productions, Soulja Boy's former imprint Collipark Productions, Universal Music Group, Collective Music Group and Interscope Records.
Plies is seeking unspecified damages, emphasizing his claim that these popular songs have unjustly benefitted from his original creation. The defendants have yet to publicly respond to the allegations. Reports indicate that Plies feels strongly about this issue and has voiced his frustration through social media, particularly following the recent 2024 Presidential Election results.
"If I could hug each and every one of y'all who needed a hug, and let you put your head on my shoulder and let you get off what you needed to get off, God knows I would," Plies expressed in a heartfelt Instagram video, addressing his followers during these turbulent times.
