AceShowbiz - Kelly Stafford, the wife of Los Angeles Rams star Matthew Stafford, admitted on her podcast "The Morning After" that she let jealousy cloud her judgment regarding Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's high-profile relationship. On Thursday's episode, she candidly discussed her initial frustration towards the couple's extensive media coverage and how it affected her perception of NFL games.
"I feel like there is just this… cloud hanging over with this Taylor Swift thing. Now, I have never once said I didn't like Taylor Swift - ever," Stafford emphasized to her co-host Hank Winchester. She admitted that the intense spotlight on Swift and Kelce made her feel as if the football game itself had become the sideshow.
In May, Kelly Stafford voiced her displeasure about the ongoing attention on the couple, stating she didn't "want to see another four months of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce coverage." Little did she know that these comments would provoke a strong backlash from Swift's dedicated fanbase, the Swifties.
Reflecting on her past comments, Kelly explained, "It was a good business decision for the NFL, but I almost felt like it was outshining the games. I think that's what bothered me. I was a little jealous of the fact that they were getting all this attention and all of a sudden the football game was the sideshow."
She acknowledged that her frustration stemmed from seeing her husband and other NFL players' hard work being overshadowed by the media frenzy surrounding the couple.
However, Kelly's perspective has since evolved. She acknowledged Taylor Swift's positive impact, particularly on female viewership in the NFL. "But I'm so thankful for her in a lot of ways because there are so many more women, there are little girls watching with their dads, and it definitely makes my girls love football more knowing that she's adjacent to it," she said.
To demonstrate her newfound admiration, Kelly and her husband surprised their four daughters - twins Sawyer and Chandler, 7, Hunter, 6, and Tyler, 4 - with a trip to Swift's Eras Tour concert in New Orleans. The family traveled in style on a Swift-themed private plane, complete with friendship bracelet kits, balloons, and a playlist of Swift's songs.
"I honestly think my girls are prouder of their dad because he is playing a sport that Taylor Swift loves," Kelly remarked. Their daughters' excitement culminated in an unforgettable experience as they attended the concert from the VIP section, with Matthew Stafford even chatting with Taylor Swift's father, Scott Swift.
"But that concert, holy s***," Kelly exclaimed, calling the event the "experience of a lifetime."
