AceShowbiz - CBS' "60 Minutes" has responded to Donald Trump's claimed that it edited its interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. Following Trump's claims, "60 Minutes" released a statement on Sunday calling the allegations "false".
It stated that they had only used a different portion of Harris's answer for the "60 Minutes" segment than the one used in a previous excerpt aired on "Face the Nation." The program emphasized that the context of Harris's response remained unchanged and that they strive for accuracy and clarity in all their interviews.
The statement also noted that Trump had declined an interview with "60 Minutes" when it was disclosed that his comments would be fact-checked, a standard practice for the program. The show further released a transcript of Harris's entire interview on its website.
Despite "60 Minutes"' denial, Trump has continued to accuse the program of "fake news" and has threatened to sue CBS. He has also demanded that CBS's broadcast licenses be revoked and that the show be taken off the air.
The controversy stems from a segment in which Harris was questioned about the Biden administration's handling of the Israel-Gaza conflict. The response aired on "60 Minutes" was briefer than the one used on "Face the Nation", prompting Trump and his supporters to allege that the program had edited it to portray Harris more positively.
"60 Minutes" maintains that it only used a shorter excerpt of Harris's response to allow for coverage of other topics in its wide-ranging segment. The program has also reissued its invitation to Trump to appear on the show.
