AceShowbiz - Production on the second season of "Peacemaker" is in full swing, and the anticipation is palpable. John Cena, reprising his role as Christopher Smith, a.k.a. Peacemaker, is set to don a variety of new helmets, including the hilariously named "Scabies for All" helmet.
James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios and creator of the "Peacemaker" TV series, has hinted at these fresh looks through social media teasers, showing his dedication to staying true to the character's comic book roots.
Interestingly, on the anniversary of Peacemaker's debut in "Fightin' 5 #40", Gunn celebrated by hyping up the new season. He remarked, "It's the role @JohnCena was born to play, and I can't wait to show you all what we're cooking up now for @Peacemaker Season 2!" This not only honors the character created by Joe Gill and Pat Boyette but also acknowledges the transition of Peacemaker from Charlton Comics to DC Comics, alongside other heroes like Captain Atom and Blue Beetle.
This season, Frank Grillo will debut as Rick Flag Sr., and there are rumors that the plot might partially take place in an alternate universe. This theory is fueled by set photos showing murals of Peacemaker in a slightly different costume, hinting at multiversal travels. Gunn's vague comments about season one not being part of the canonical DCU only add to the speculation that Peacemaker might be crossing over into another reality.
The returning cast includes Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Steve Agee as John Economos, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo. A surprise revelation from Robert Patrick suggests his character Auggie Smith will return despite his apparent death in the season one finale, enhancing the multiverse theory. Additionally, directors Greg Mottola and Peter Sollett will join Gunn in helming the new season's episodes, bringing fresh perspectives to the series.
New faces joining the series include Sol Rodriguez, Tim Meadows and David Denman, with one director hinting at a return of Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, despite his character's demise in "The Suicide Squad". Gunn also confirmed a connection to the broader DC Universe, with Rick Flag Sr. reappearing from the upcoming "Creature Commandos" animated show.
As the second season of "Peacemaker" gears up for its late 2025 release, the mix of familiar faces, new characters and intriguing storyline twists promises to deliver another compelling chapter in the saga of Christopher Smith. Stay tuned!
