AceShowbiz - Tia Mowry, known for her role in "Sister, Sister," has decided to give her wedding ring a new purpose after her divorce from Cory Hardrict. On the October 11 episode of her new reality show, "Tia Mowry: My Next Act," the 46-year-old actress shared her decision to repurpose the ring into jewelry for her children, Cree, 13, and Cairo, 6.
"I haven't worn it for almost two years now, and it just doesn't feel right to sell it," Mowry explained on the show. "But what I am wanting to do is change my wedding band into something for my kids. Pass it down, you know, to my kids, because they have been my biggest gift."
Her decision follows the finalization of her divorce in April 2023 after a 14-year marriage. Mowry and Hardrict first met on a movie set in 1999 and married in 2008. The split, announced in October 2022, marked the end of an era, but Mowry found a way to make something beautiful out of a bittersweet situation.
During the episode, Mowry became emotional as she spoke about the ring, "It's just been sitting… It was very pretty. It's sad because this is a symbol of a marriage, and it is no longer."
The decision to transform the ring was not made lightly. "It's hard for me to not think about Cory when I am deciding to repurpose my wedding band because he is the one who gave me my wedding ring," she said, recalling his romantic proposal.
Despite the emotional hurdles, Mowry chose to move forward. "But I am learning that, at the end of the day, I need to make this decision for me. And I think because it's going to the kids, he'll be okay," she explained in a confessional.
At a jewelry store, Mowry decided to make a necklace for Cree and a bracelet for Cairo. "I just think it's so beautiful to transform something that was given out of love and to give it to your children. It just makes me feel like my marriage wasn't a waste," she shared.
Mowry and Hardrict continue to co-parent their children amicably. On her reality show, Mowry has been open about the difficulties of dating post-divorce and how she navigates her emotions authentically, especially in front of her children. "As a mother, you kind of try to figure out if you should allow them to see your emotions, your ups and downs. And I've made the choice to move from an authentic place," she said.
The transformation of her wedding ring symbolizes more than just the end of a marriage; it's a testament to the enduring love for her children and the new path she forges as she steps into the next chapter of her life.
