AceShowbiz - Christopher "Chris" Gerard Ciccone, the younger brother of pop icon Madonna, has passed away at the age of 63. The talented artist and designer died on October 4, confirmed by his representative who stated he died "peacefully" with his husband Ray Thacker by his side. His death comes closely following the death of his stepmother Joan Gustafson Ciccone in late September and his elder brother Anthony's death earlier this year.
Born in Pontiac, Michigan, Christopher was the fifth child of Madonna Louise (Fortin) and Silvio Patrick Ciccone. He grew up in Rochester and studied at Western Michigan and Oakland Universities before moving to New York City.
In New York, he supported his sister's burgeoning music career as a dancer and choreographer, eventually expanding his role to art director and set designer for her iconic "Blond Ambition" and "The Girlie Show" tours.
In addition to his performance and production work with Madonna, Christopher branched out into interior design after helping her furnish an apartment she shared with then-husband Sean Penn.
He told Northern Express, "She needed help buying some furniture, and there's where my interest began for filling a space, designing a room, and working with a client." His knack for design led him to work on luxury condos and high-profile restaurants, and he even launched a footwear line.
Despite a productive collaboration, Christopher and Madonna experienced a strained relationship following his 2008 tell-all memoir, "Life with My Sister Madonna". He criticized her personality, lifestyle, and her then-husband Guy Ritchie's allegedly homophobic behavior. At the time, a rep for Madonna said that she found it "very upsetting" that her brother decided to publish the book.
However, they reconciled around 2012. Christopher mentioned in an interview with The Evening Standard, "As far as I'm concerned, we're good. We are in contact with each other, although I haven't seen her for a long time. We're back to being a brother and sister."
In his later years, Christopher returned to Michigan to be closer to family and continued to thrive creatively as a painter and designer. Ultimately, he is remembered not only for his artistic contributions but for his dedication to family and his husband Ray Thacker, whom he married in 2016.
Christopher Ciccone leaves behind a legacy of creativity and resilience, survived by his husband, father, and siblings, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
