Samantha Hanratty, who is currently expecting her first child, is sharing some heartfelt news about her pregnancy, revealing a journey filled with unexpected challenges and resolute optimism.

AceShowbiz - "Yellowjackets" actress Samantha Hanratty recently took to TikTok to share a poignant update about her first pregnancy. The 29-year-old disclosed that her expected baby boy will be born with a cleft lip, news that came as a shock to both her and her husband, Christian DeAnda.

"I've been doing some updates on here and having a good time sharing these things with you and I thought I would share our latest update that our baby is going to have a cleft lip and a possible cleft palate," Samantha revealed in her video.

Explaining her initial reaction to the diagnosis, Samantha admitted, "At first the news was obviously shocking because it doesn't run in my family, it doesn't run in my husband's family. And the biggest thing that we all want is that we want our kids to be happy and we want our kids to be healthy."

According to the Mayo Clinic, cleft lip and cleft palate are "openings or splits in the upper lip, the roof of the mouth (palate) or both. Cleft lip and cleft palate result when facial structures that are developing in an unborn baby don't close completely." These conditions often require multiple surgeries after birth.

Samantha acknowledged that the prospect of her baby undergoing several surgeries soon after being born is daunting. "It's still scary to think that your precious little baby is going to be going under anesthesia and that there's going to be difficulties," she explained. She also mentioned the emotional toll of not being able to nurse directly, as she'll have to rely on pumping and formula feeding for her baby.

Despite the challenges, the couple found solace in the skilled specialists they have connected with. "I am already preparing for the fact that I will not be able to nurse. I will be pumping and doing formula, and it's been emotional, but I think that both me and my husband are at peace with the fact that we know that he's going to be okay," she stated.

Samatha's positivity shines through as she recognizes her circumstances, "This was just a little bit of a different journey than what we had expected. I'm not going to lie and pretend that this has been the easiest of news, but I'm also, like I said, just incredibly grateful for how fortunate we are."

The actress concluded with an inspiring note about her baby's resilience and her mindset amidst the situation. "1 in 700 children are born with a cleft lip and/or palate and we're praying that it's just in the lip and not in palate, just because there's more difficulties when it comes with closing things up and further surgeries," she noted, adding, "We're prepared for either way."

Finally, Samantha said that whenever she feels a bit down or anxious, her baby's movements provide her with reassurance. "Any time she gets a little sad or scared, her son kicks me and reminds me that he's fine and that he's going to be okay."
