AceShowbiz - Samuel L. Jackson has expressed his astonishment at the speed with which Marvel completed his initial nine-picture contract. Despite agreeing to the deal in 2008 for "Iron Man", Jackson has since appeared in a dozen Marvel films, including multiple "Avengers" movies and standalone projects like "The Marvels".
"I knew I had a nine-picture deal," Jackson recalled in an interview with GQ magazine. "But I didn't realize they were going to make nine movies in like two and a half years. That's kind of crazy!"
Jackson initially wondered how long he would need to "stay alive to make nine movies," but he acknowledges that the experience has been rewarding. Despite his success, he emphasizes that his happiness is paramount.
"I was never going to let the Oscars be a measure of my success or failure as an actor," Jackson said. "My yardstick of success is my happiness: Am I satisfied with what I'm doing?"
Instead of pursuing Oscar-baiting roles, Jackson prefers to portray characters like Nick Fury and Mace Windu, finding greater fulfillment in the work itself.
"I'd rather be Nick Fury or have fun being Mace Windu with a lightsaber in my hand," he stated. "As jaded as I wanted to be about [not winning Oscars], it wasn't a big deal for me. I always have fun going to the Oscars and getting a gift basket for being a presenter."
