AceShowbiz - Riley Keough believes her late mother, Lisa Marie Presley, "died of a broken heart" after her son Benjamin Keough died by suicide in 2020. In an interview, Riley, 35, shared that despite Lisa Marie's efforts to be strong for her daughters after Benjamin's passing, her pain was evident.

"My mom tried her best to find strength for me and my younger sisters after Ben died, but we knew how much pain she was in," Riley said. "My mom physically died from the after effects of her surgery, but we all knew she died of a broken heart."

Lisa Marie Presley's death at 53 was attributed to a small-bowel obstruction. However, Riley believes her mother's emotional distress contributed to her decline. Riley recalled that Lisa Marie had previously written in an essay that she would never "get over" Benjamin's death.

In her mother's posthumous memoir, "From Here to the Great Unknown", which Riley helped finish, Lisa Marie reveals that she and Riley found solace in helping others who had experienced loss. In finishing the book, Riley had to confront the pain of her brother's and mother's deaths.

"It was incredibly difficult to write about," Riley said. "But the book is not only about grief. It's about love, heartbreak, loss, addiction, and family. My mom wanted to connect with people who are struggling, to let them know they're not alone."

Riley will discuss the memoir in an upcoming Oprah Winfrey special airing on October 8, coinciding with the book's release.
