The actor who played Legolas in 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit' trilogies has reached out to Andy Serkis over possible return to Middle Earth and what to expect from the new film.

AceShowbiz - Warner Bros. recently announced several new "Lord of the Rings" projects, including a film tentatively titled "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum", slated for a 2026 release. Although details about the movie's cast and story are sparse, interest from former stars, rumored technological innovations, and insights from key figures have fans buzzing with excitement.

Orlando Bloom, who famously portrayed Legolas in both "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" trilogies, alluded to the potential use of AI to de-age characters for the new installment.

In an interview with Variety, Bloom, showing clear enthusiasm, expressed his willingness to return. "Oh man, those things are amazing," he remarked. "I don't know how they'd do it. I guess with AI you can do anything these days. But, if Pete [Peter Jackson] says jump, I say, 'how high?' I mean, he started my whole career."

It's evident Bloom holds great affection for his role and the world of Middle Earth. However, the decision ultimately rests on the direction and development of the script, which is still in the nascent stages of planning.

Another key figure showing interest is the legendary Sir Ian McKellen, known for his iconic role as Gandalf. McKellen revealed that while he had been approached to reprise his role, the timing and script are crucial.

"Enthusiasm for The Lord of the Rings shows no sign of abating … I've just been told there are going to be more films and Gandalf will be involved, and they hope that I'll be playing him," McKellen shared. "They better be quick," he added, considering his age and the early development stage of the film.

In terms of confirmed returnees, Andy Serkis, who brought Gollum to life, will not only reprise his role but is also set to direct the film. Serkis is known for his profound understanding of Gollum's character and promises a deep dive into Gollum's perspective on Middle Earth. "The Hunt for Gollum is a work-in-progress title...it's going to very much be the world of Middle Earth according to Gollum's experience of it," Serkis has previously stated.

As anticipation builds, one thing is certain: the new chapter in "The Lord of the Rings" universe is sure to capture the imagination of fans, old and new alike, as it ventures deeper into the enigmatic world of Middle Earth.

By drawing on the rich legacy of its predecessors and incorporating innovative storytelling methods, "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" promises to be a fascinating exploration of one of fantasy's most beloved realms.
