Ballerini revealed that Dibs had been diagnosed with inoperable cancer in his heart, although he was not in pain and the cancer had not spread. She explained that he would be starting "big" medications to ensure he had as many comfortable and happy days as possible.

Ballerini extended her gratitude to the "amazing" doctors, her mother, and her boyfriend, Chase Stokes, whom she praised as "the greatest dog dad in the world." She also mentioned that Dibs was receiving extra cuddles and treats from his small family.

The country singer admitted that it was an "emotional and complex time" for her, as Dibs had been her "baby and steady" for the past nine years and had been a constant presence throughout her career.
