AceShowbiz - "It Ends with Us", based on Colleen Hoover's bestselling novel, has become a box office smash, grossing over $242 million worldwide. Despite its financial success, rumors of a feud between stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni have cast a shadow over the possibility of a sequel.
Sources close to Variety confirm the "bad blood" between Lively and Baldoni, who directed and produced the film. The split is reportedly so severe that a reunion may be impossible.
The feud has been evident since before the film's release, with Baldoni attending the New York premiere separately from the cast. Social media activity also revealed that Lively and other cast members unfollowed Baldoni.
The rift is further complicated by the fact that Baldoni's Wayfarer Studios holds the cinematic rights to both "It Ends with Us" and its sequel, "It Starts with Us". This gives him the sole authority to determine the fate of any potential sequel.
Baldoni has hinted that he may not direct the sequel, suggesting that Lively could take on the role. However, given Baldoni's rights and the size of his character in the second novel, a resolution would still be required.
Industry sources say that a sequel would ideally be released within two to three years to maintain audience interest. However, the current feud between Lively and Baldoni makes it highly unlikely that such a project could come to fruition.
Despite the behind-the-scenes drama, "It Ends with Us" has become a critical and commercial success. It is already the highest-grossing film in both Lively's and Baldoni's careers. However, the feud has overshadowed the box office glory, leaving the future of the franchise in doubt.
