Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez shared the arrest details, emphasizing, "Homicide Investigators charged Akili McDowell (21) with murder in the shooting death of Cesar Peralta (20). McDowell was recently taken into custody and booked into the Harris County Jail."

Gonzalez confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and has urged anyone with information to contact the department's Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100.

McDowell, who rose to fame with his portrayal of a young prodigy in "David Makes Man", created by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Tarell Alvin McCraney, has been considered a rising star in Hollywood. Besides his prominent roles in "David Makes Man" and "Billions", McDowell has also appeared in "The Astronaut Wives Club", "Criminal Activities" starring John Travolta, and "The Waterboyz".
