AceShowbiz - Kim Burrell has apologized to the LGBTQ community over her past homophobic remarks. However, not everyone was pleased to hear the gospel singer's apology because of the "tone."
The 51-year-old expressed her remorse when taking the stage at the Stellar Awards over the weekend to accept the Aretha Franklin Icon Award. "I want to apologize to the LGBTQ community," she began in a video taken by one of the audience members.
"Let's give them a great big round of applause," she added. "We want them to have strength and to sincerely know that we must all do the work to embrace all of God's people and show forth His love to everyone."
Kim went on to note, "I hope that this award and this moment can be the beginning of a bridge-building and listening to each other as we follow peace with all man and develop the character of God, which requires seeing God."
Many have weighed in on Kim's statements. "Whatever she originally said about gay people cost her some money… because I know her mean a** ain't sorry for s**t," one person argued, while another penned, "That tone… she could've kept it."
Kim sparked backlash in 2017 after a homophobic sermon surfaced online. "Anybody in this room who's dealing with the homosexual spirit, beg God to free you. Play with it in 2017; you'll die from it," she said at the time.
Despite the criticism, the musicians initially remained defiant. "To every person that is dealing with the homosexual spirit, I love you because God loves you, but God hates the sin in you and me," she declared.
