AceShowbiz - In a recent interview on "The Kelly Clarkson Show," Lily Gladstone, who won a Golden Globe for her role in "Killers of the Flower Moon," likened award ceremonies to the South Korean Netflix series "Squid Game."
"The reality is, you're in shapewear, you need to pee, you have commercial breaks, but that's the only time that you're able to do it," Gladstone said. "So, it's just a mad scramble, and that's when you get to meet idols like Meryl Streep."
Gladstone made history as the first Indigenous woman to win a Golden Globe, delivering her acceptance speech partially in the Blackfoot language. "This is for every little res kid, every little urban kid, every little Native kid out there who has a dream who is seeing themselves represented," she said.
Despite her Golden Globe win, Gladstone lost the Best Actress Oscar to Emma Stone. However, her performance in "Killers of the Flower Moon" has drawn widespread acclaim, and she joins a list of celebrities who have expressed skepticism about the awards circuit.
"I mean, the reality is, it's a whole shebang of nonsense," actress Glenda Jackson said. "The Oscars have much less to do with cinema. They are about frocks and the whole shebang of nonsense."
Gladstone's comparison to "Squid Game" underscores the physical and emotional strains of the awards season, where celebrities often face intense pressure and navigate a whirlwind of media attention. Yet, amidst the chaos, they also find moments to connect with fellow creatives and celebrate their craft.
