AceShowbiz - Just days after the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office announced it would not pursue criminal charges against Killer Mike for his arrest at the 2024 Grammys, the rapper has released a new song titled "Humble Me". The single serves as an introspective take on the incident that occurred after Mike won three awards that evening.
On the track's second verse, Killer Mike recounts his experience, rapping, "Swept up like a janitor, got sent to the slammer, bruh/ Treat me like an animal, or some kind of Hannibal." He goes on to reference his subsequent release and the news about his son's life-saving kidney transplant, rapping, "I walk out the door, my head up, in handcuffs, with pride/ Cause all of my heroes wore handcuffs, the FBI shot some of them and they died."
In a statement, Killer Mike revealed that he returned to the studio the day after his arrest and began working on new music. "I'm as inspired as ever, and I'm just following the music at this point," he said. "All my heroes have been cuffed and mishandled in some way. I just thanked God in that moment of being Daniel in the lion's den."
The release of "Humble Me" coincides with Mike's ongoing "Down By Law" tour, where he will be joined by the Mighty Midnight Revival choir. The rapper is also set to perform at major festivals this summer, including Lollapalooza, Newport Folk Festival and the Montreal International Jazz Festival. Additionally, "Humble Me" is expected to appear on Mike's upcoming follow-up album to "Michael", which is slated to be released later this year.
