AceShowbiz - Coldplay, the globally renowned British band fronted by Chris Martin, recently concluded a tumultuous legal battle with their former manager, Dave Holmes. After parting ways in 2022 after more than two decades, Holmes sued the band for a hefty £10 million, claiming unpaid commission for their upcoming tenth and eleventh albums. However, Coldplay didn't take the accusation lightly and countersued for £14 million, accusing Holmes of overspending by an eye-watering £17.5 million during their Music of the Spheres world tour.
Legal documents from London's High Court, obtained by The Sun, reveal that in May, the band agreed to a seven-figure settlement to avoid having private details exposed in court. While the exact amount remains undisclosed, it is confirmed that Coldplay paid millions to settle the dispute.
An insider close to the band shared, "Chris and the band are happy they've drawn a line in the sand but it has come at a price. The settlement cost them millions. They just want to move on." Since Holmes' departure, Chris Martin's best friend, Phil Harvey, who initially helped fund their first recording and was regarded as the band's fifth member, has assumed the role of their lead manager.
The legal fallout has been intense, with Holmes alleging that Coldplay made up stories of his mishandling and ethical lapses. Coldplay's defense claimed that Holmes' financial decisions led to spiraling costs, including expensive, unused stage pylons and a $9.7 million visual project, Jet Screen, which was only utilized for ten gigs in Buenos Aires on a 165-gig world tour. The band also accused Holmes of leveraging his position to secure $30 million in favorable loans from Live Nation, raising concerns about a potential conflict of interest.
