AceShowbiz - Two things BLACKPINK's Lisa isn't short on are cash and views. The K-pop superstar's 2021 music video for "MONEY" has surpassed the billion-views mark on YouTube, marking her first visual as a soloist to hit this milestone.
In the three-minute clip, Lisa exudes confidence as she and a group of backup dancers show off intricate choreography in two locations, an abandoned highway and a warehouse lit up by an enormous electronic screen. The former is backdropped by a flickering sign that reads an unattributed P.T. Barnum quote, "Money is a terrible master but an excellent servant."
The Thai musician sings on the TEDDY-produced track, "I came here to drop some money, dropping all my money/ Drop some money, all this bread so yummy/ Twerking, twerking when I buy the things I like/ Dollar, dollars dropping on my a** tonight."
Since her debut as a soloist in 2021, Lisa has been carving her name in music history, setting many records on global musical platforms. "MONEY" hitting the billion-view mark places her alongside fellow BLACKPINK member Jennie and the iconic PSY as one of the few K-pop soloists to achieve this feat on YouTube. Lisa's achievement is even more impressive given how quickly she reached it: just 975 days, making it the fastest video by a female K-pop soloist to reach 1 billion views on the platform.
Lisa's record-breaking doesn't stop with YouTube. She became the first K-pop soloist to enter Spotify's prestigious "Billion Club" with "MONEY", shattering barriers for Asian solo artists and earning a spot in the Guinness World Records. This makes her the first K-pop soloist to surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify.
Alongside her BLACKPINK members, Lisa also holds the distinction of having a dance performance video, "How You Like That DP", that has surpassed 1 billion views on YouTube. This solidifies BLACKPINK's status as one of the most influential acts in K-pop history.
