AceShowbiz - Chris Hemsworth is on the verge of another cinematic milestone, as the Australian superstar is in negotiations to headline Paramount Pictures' untitled "Transformers" / "G.I. Joe" crossover movie. The insider information from Deadline suggests that this fusion of two iconic 1980s Hasbro franchises is set to be a cinematic spectacle.
If Hemsworth's deal is finalized, it will mark yet another collaboration with Paramount, following his involvement in the upcoming animated feature "Transformers One", slated for release on September 20, 2024. Notably, "Transformers One" has already been hailed as one of Paramount Animation's highest-tested titles ever.
The seeds for this ambitious crossover were sown in the epilogue of Steven Caple Jr.'s "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts", a sequel that breathed new life into the "Transformers" franchise with a whopping $439 million box office haul, far surpassing "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" ($384 million). Hemsworth will thus join a storied cinematic legacy, as "Transformers" and "G.I. Joe" have a combined box office gross of $6 billion globally.
Behind the scenes, heavyweight names like Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto, and Don Murphy will drive the production, with Steven Spielberg and Hasbro Entertainment serving as executive producers.
Chris Hemsworth's versatility and star power are undeniable, having first captivated U.S. audiences as Thor in Marvel's Avengers series, including "Avengers: Endgame", which grossed a staggering $2.8 billion worldwide. He has also made waves on Netflix with "Extraction", which bagged 99 million viewers in just four weeks, making it the streaming giant's most-watched original movie.
Hemsworth's multifaceted career doesn't stop there. His dynamic performance as Dementus in George Miller's "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" has been celebrated by critics and audiences alike, with the film achieving a 90% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Deadline's Chief Film Critic Pete Hammond praised his role as "the best performance of his career," asserting that Hemsworth "locks into this role with abandon and steals the picture."
Furthermore, Hemsworth's collaboration with Darren Aronofsky for the National Geographic series "Limitless", available on Disney+, adds another feather to his cap. Revealing the actor's impressive range, the show was part of Hemsworth's first-look deal through his multiplatform production company, Wild State, which also produced Extraction 2.
As the potential for this blockbuster crossover remains "in talks," one thing is clear: Chris Hemsworth continues to be one of Hollywood's most versatile and bankable stars.
