AceShowbiz - Trisha Yearwood has been awarded the inaugural June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award at the 2024 CMT Music Awards. The honor recognizes an artist who embodies the late country icon's spirit of community service and advocacy.
Accepting the award, Yearwood expressed her gratitude and acknowledged Carter Cash's legacy. "June Carter Cash was a force, and she was also married to a force," she said, referring to her husband, Garth Brooks. "I know a little bit [about] a life like that."
Yearwood emphasized that she views the award not as a recognition but as a call to action. "This is not one of those, 'Oh look what I can do. Look what I accomplished,'" she said. "I really look at this as a challenge and a calling just to be better."
Yearwood's philanthropic efforts span decades, primarily focused on Habitat for Humanity. She and Brooks were named Habitat Humanitarians in 2016 for their extensive work alongside families in need.
Beyond Habitat for Humanity, Yearwood has supported organizations such as the American Cancer Society, the Humane Society, MusiCares, and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. She has also established Dottie's Yard to assist animal rescues.
In addition to her philanthropic work, Yearwood has released a new song titled "Put It In a Song" at the CMT Awards. She hinted at an upcoming album that features songs written by herself, a venture she has recently embraced with the encouragement of her husband.
Jane Seymour presented Yearwood with the award. Yearwood's acceptance speech was met with applause and a standing ovation from the audience.
The CMT Music Awards are held annually to recognize the achievements of country music artists. The 2024 ceremony took place in Austin, Texas, on Sunday, April 7.
