The 'Rothaniel' star sits down with the Odd Future member on his self-titled reality show to talk about the rapper's initial reaction after the comedian confessed his feelings to the hip-hop star.

AceShowbiz - In the premiere episode of "The Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show", the eponymous comedian revealed his unrequited romantic feelings for his longtime friend, rapper Tyler, the Creator. Carmichael confessed to expressing his emotions over text in 2021, but Tyler dismissed them with a laughing voice note.
Despite the initial rebuff, Jerrod Carmichael attempted to woo Tyler again in 2022 by inviting him to the Emmy Awards as his date. However, Tyler declined, leaving Carmichael to take an anonymous friend instead.
During a candid conversation on the show, Carmichael confronted Tyler. "You called me stupid b***h," he said. Tyler explained his initial response, "Getting news like that and then avoiding it is a way to avoid changes.... that was a lot to download. And now we're here and I still don't know how to respond..."
In a further conversation, Tyler asked, "What would have been an ideal response?... I don't know what you want me to answer. .. you wanting the same thing for me?" The rapper then made it clear that he saw Carmichael, who looked crushed, as a "true brother."
Besides the awkward chat, Carmichael shared a heartwarming moment in the episode. Despite his estrangement from his family over his sexuality, he received a congratulatory voice message from his mother after winning an Emmy for his special "Rothaniel," in which he had publicly come out as gay.
