The Oscar-winner 'Oppenheimer' actor is set to reprise his iconic character Tommy Shelby in the upcoming feature film sequel to the period crime drama series.

AceShowbiz - Following his triumphant Oscar win for his role in "Oppenheimer", Cillian Murphy is set to reprise his iconic character as Tommy Shelby in the upcoming "Peaky Blinders" movie. According to Birmingham World, "Peaky Blinders" creator Steven Knight confirmed Murphy's return to the role.

"He definitely is returning for it," Knight said. "We're shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth." Knight praised Murphy's performance in "Oppenheimer", calling it "so deserved." He described Murphy as "brilliant" and "a great human being."

Murphy has previously expressed interest in returning to the role if the script met his expectations. "If we want to watch 50-year-old Tommy Shelby, I will be there," he said last year.

The "Peaky Blinders" series, which aired on BBC and gained popularity on Netflix, concluded after six seasons in 2022. The show follows the Shelby family, who run a criminal enterprise in Birmingham, England, following World War I.

Knight has teased the possibility of a film version for some time, hinting at the involvement of a new generation of characters.

The "Peaky Blinders" movie is scheduled to begin filming in September 2024.
