The 'Hips Don't Lie' hitmaker talks about her recent heartbreak, explaining that she put a break on her musical career to be with the 37-year-old Spanish soccer player.

AceShowbiz - Shakira has opened up about her sacrifices and heartbreak following her split from professional footballer Gerard Pique. In an interview with The Sunday Times, the "Hips Don't Lie" singer revealed that she put her career on hold for many years to be with Pique and support his football career.

"For a long time I put my career on hold, to be next to Gerard, so he could play football," Shakira said. She added that "There was a lot of sacrifice for love." The couple met in 2010 on the set of her "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" music video and welcomed two sons, Milan and Sasha.

Shakira's decision to prioritize her family came from her belief in "till death do us part." She explained, "My priority was my home, my family. I believed in 'till death do us part.' I believed that dream."

Her parents have been together for over 50 years, which inspired her to strive for the same for herself and her children. However, her hopes were shattered when the relationship ended in June 2022.

"My parents have been together, I don't know, 50 years, and they love each other like the first day, with a love that's unique and unrepeatable. So I know it's possible," she said. "It's what I wanted for myself and my children, but it didn't happen."
