AceShowbiz - Rooney Mara is expecting her second child with Joaquin Phoenix. The "Carol" actress broke her pregnancy news by debuting her baby bump at the 74th Berlinale International Film Festival.

At the Friday, February 16 event, which was in support of her new film, "La Cocina", the 38-year-old cradled her growing baby bump in a stunning strapless, floor-length gown with black draped material. The expectant mom and her fiance, however, have yet to comment on the pregnancy.

Rooney and Joaquin were first romantically linked in 2017, four years after working together on "Her". The couple is known for being private with their romance, but in 2019, the "Joker" actor offered a rare insight into their relationship.

"She's the only girl I ever looked up on the internet," Joaquin admitted in an interview with Vanity Fair, noting how he initially thought Rooney hated him until he learned that she was just too shy to ask him out. "We were just friends, email friends. I'd never done that. Never looked up a girl online."

Rooney and Joaquin privately got engaged in 2019. In the following year, the pair welcomed son River, who was named after Joaquin's older brother, who died at age 23 on October 31, 1993, from an overdose.

As for Rooney, she once got candid about her motherhood journey ahead of the 2021 U.S. Mother's Day. In an open letter written as part of Farm Sanctuary's Mother's Day campaign, she said she felt "fortunate" to be able to care for her son in "all of the ways that nature intended," and wishes all mothers in the animal kingdom were as lucky.

"As a new mom, Mother's Day has taken on a special meaning this year," she continued. "Raising our baby, River, has opened my heart to a whole new life filled with hope and more determination than ever to create a kinder and more sustainable world."

"I feel so fortunate to be able to nurture my son in all of the ways that nature intended," she further stated. "And I wish all mothers in the animal kingdom could experience that sacred maternal bond with their young, devoid of exploitation by humans."
