While the 'Haunted Mansion' star delights some viewers when he takes the stage as a presenter, the former 'Chelsea Lately' panelist blames his short preparation when he fails to make the audience laugh during his monologue.

AceShowbiz - Jared Leto is clearly well aware of the criticism he got regarding his method acting. When presenting an award at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, the singer/actor took a moment to roast himself over his status as one of Hollywood's most infamous method actors.
The 52-year-old was on hand to announce this year's categories for best supporting actress and actor in a motion picture along with Angela Bassett. "I have been in presenter mode for weeks now," he said before revealing the winners. "I've been doing research developing my character, incessantly reminding everyone around me to please call me by my character name, dammit."
Bassett was playing along, asking, "You mean 'Jared Leto?' " The 30 Seconds to Mars frontman responded, "Exactly! I've learned the art of holding an envelope." He continued, "It's about the angle, the grip. It's about the subtlety, the meaningful connection between presenter partner and paper. It is a deeply emotional journey."
"This is embodying the spirit of the Golden Globes. Feeling each nominee's hopes and dreams at your fingertips as you hold their destiny and their agent's bonuses/balls in your hands," he went on gushing, before naming the winners, which were Da'Vine Joy Randolph for "The Holdovers" and Robert Downey Jr. for "Oppenheimer".
Leto and Bassett presented the award right after host Jo Koy kicked off the Sunday, January 7 show with his monologue. He targeted "Barbenheimer", complaining about the length of "Oppenheimer" as he declared that his goal is to finish the movie in 2025. He also wondered if it was weird that he was attracted to a plastic doll in "Barbie".
Some of his jokes, however, failed to generate laughter from the audience. Defending himself for the dry humor, he said, "I got the gig 10 days ago, you want a perfect monologue?!" The comedian was announced as the host on December 21, 2023 after several actors reportedly turned down the gig.
Leto's presence after Koy's monologue delighted some viewers, with someone reacting on X, formerly Twitter, "jesus i aged 15 years during that monologue i've never been so happy to see jared leto." Mocking the comedian, a second user penned, "Jo Koy was so awful that I'm relieved to see the comic stylings of Jared Leto." A third raved over the presenting duo, "angela bassett being the gorgeous queen as she is and jared leto's sense of humour is [100]."
