Universal Pictures is reportedly looking to get back in business with Jason Bourne with 'All Quiet on the Western Front' helmer Edward Berger in talks to direct.

AceShowbiz - Jason Bourne is called for duty again. Years after Matt Damon last portrayed the former CIA assassin, a new "Bourne" movie is in the works at Universal Pictures with the 53-year-old actor being expected to reprise his role.

According to Deadline, the upcoming sixth installment of the action-thriller film series is currently still in "early" stage of development. The studio is reportedly in negotiations with "All Quiet on the Western Front" helmer Edward Berger to oversee development and direct the pic.

As the project is still in early development, there is no script at this stage, said insiders close to the project. No other talent is on board just yet, but Damon would be approached first to return in the iconic role once a script is finished.

Berger is known for his 2022 film adaptation of the 1929 novel by Erich Maria Remarque, "All Quiet on the Western Front". The movie earned nine nominations at the 95th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won four for Best International Feature, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score and Best Production Design.

Most recently, the German-Austrian filmmaker directed "Conclave", written by Peter Straughan from the bestselling book by Robert Harris. The British thriller stars Ralph Fiennes, John Lithgow, Stanley Tucci and Isabella Rossellini and has been acquired by Focus Features for distribution, but no release date is set just yet.

Damon last portrayed Jason Bourne in the fifth film, "Jason Bourne", which was released in 2016. Paul Greengrass, who directed the second and third installment of the film series, returned at the helm with the script written by Greengrass and Christopher Rouse.

Doug Liman directed the first pic, "The Bourne Identity", and Tony Gilroy served behind the lens for the fourth film, "The Bourne Legacy". Gilroy also wrote or co-wrote each film except for "Jason Bourne".
