'General Hospital' Star Tyler Christopher Dead at 50 After 'Cardiac Event'

The actor, who was known for his role as Nikolas Cassadine on 'General Hospital', passed away on Tuesday morning, October 31 at his apartment in San Diego, California.

AceShowbiz - Tyler Christopher has passed away at the age of 50 years old. Following a "cardiac event," the actor portraying Nikolas Cassadine on "General Hospital" took his last breath in California on Tuesday morning, October 31.

That same day, Tyler's "General Hospital" co-star Maurice Benard issued a statement via Instagram. "It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tyler Christopher. Tyler passed away this morning following a cardiac event in his San Diego apartment," the statement read.

Maurice went on to remember his late pal by writing, "Tyler was a truly talented individual that lit up the screen in every scene he performed and relished bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting. Tyler was a sweet soul and wonderful friend to all of those who knew him."

"Tyler was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment who openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol," Maurice continued. "We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father."

Aside from Tyler's co-star, his representative Chi Muoi Lo broke silence on his passing. "This news was incredibly shocking, and I am devastated by his loss," Chi spoke to CNN. "He was a very gifted actor, and more importantly, an amazing friend. My heart goes out to his friends and family who loved him so much."

Prior to his death, Tyler played a number of roles for several shows. From 1996 to 2016, he portrayed the well-known character named Nikolas Cassadine on "General Hospital". For this particular role, he won one Daytime Emmy and had four other nominations. In 2017, he announced in an interview with Soap Opera Digest that he had left the show to take a "personal leave." However, he did not return to the series.

Tyler further starred as Stefan DiMera on NBC's series titled "Days of Our Lives" from 2018 to 2019. He also received a Daytime Emmy nomination for the role. Aside from the two TV programs, Tyler starred on other shows, including "The Lying Game", "Into the West" and "Charmed".

Tyler was previously married to actress Eva Longoria from 2002 to 2004. Two years later, he announced his engagement to auto racing reporter Brienne Pedigo. They tied the knot in 2008. More than one decade later, in February 2019, she filed for divorce. The former couple shared son Greysun James as well as daughter Boheme together.
