AceShowbiz - Joe Manganiello has filed for divorce from his wife Sofia Vergara two days after announcing their split after seven years of marriage. The "Magic Mike" actor filed legal docs in the Los Angeles County Superior Court on late Wednesday, July 19, per TMZ.
The news outlet claimed that Joe's lawyer Laura Wasser cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the separation. The legal documents also revealed that the former couple has a prenup in place and Sofia allegedly doesn't plan to contest the prenup.
In his filing, Joe asked the court to confirm that they will each keep the assets, including jewelry and their earnings, that they accumulated during their 7-year marriage. He additionally asked that each party pays for their attorney's fees.
TMZ also revealed that a big reason behind their split was that Sofia and Joe didn't see eye to eye when it comes to having children. The actor allegedly wants to have kids, but the "Modern Family" alum does not.
Sofia and Joe recently confirmed that they have made the "difficult" decision to split. "We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives," they said in a joint statement.
A recent report claimed that the "True Blood" hunk and the "America's Got Talent" judge's separation was due to their very different lifestyle aspirations and that Joe planned to leave the glamorous Hollywood life behind after the split. "I don't think Joe was ever really comfortable in a giant Los Angeles mansion or on the beaches of Saint Tropez," an insider said. "He saw that stuff for what it was and only let it into his life because it made Sofia happy."
The source added, "No way is Joe staying in Beverly Hills now that he's out of this marriage, and I would not be shocked if he found some modest small town to settle down in. He misses the backyard barbecues and friend group he had in the early days of his career, and he tried to recreate that vibe during this marriage, without much success."
The so-called friend went on to say, "Joe is incredibly close to his brother who has been a wingman for him on this crazy journey of the last several years. Joe is basically a normal guy trapped in the body of a superhero, in this industry full of deeply weird and needy people."
