Meanwhile, the weekend's other major new release, Lionsgate's R-rated comedy 'Joy Ride' arrives at No. 6 as it opens to an estimated $5.85 million in domestic market.

AceShowbiz - "Insidious: The Red Door" beats "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" at the new Box Office. The new horror movie takes over the top position at the domestic weekend box office after opening to an estimated $32.6 million despite a humble expectation.

The number successfully made the fifth in the franchise, the second-most successful domestic opening of the series. Its predecessor "Insidious: Chapter 2" remains at the top as it earned 40.3 million in its debut weekend back in 2012.

"Insidious: The Red Door" marks star Patrick Wilson's directorial debut. In addition to Patrick, the Screen Gems, Stage 6 Films and Blumhouse-produced franchise brings back original cast members including Ty Simpkins, Andrew Astor and Rose Byrne.

"At a cost of approximately $16 million and with good foreign potential, this is another smart, profitable Blumhouse production," said David A. Gross, who runs the movie consulting firm Franchise Entertainment Research.

As for "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny", the final entry in the Harrison Ford-starring franchise grossed an additional $26.5 million to its $60 million total over the weekend. At No. 3 was Angel Studios' "Sound of Freedom", which raked in $18.2 million following its big July 4 debut. The conservative-leaning thriller now earns $40.2 million in total.

Pixar and Disney's "Elemental", meanwhile, was stationary at No. 4 with $9.6 million addition in domestic theaters. "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" followed behind with $8 million.

The weekend's other major new release, Lionsgate's R-rated comedy "Joy Ride", arrived at No. 6 as it opened to an estimated $5.85 million from 2,820 locations. "This is a weak opening for a romantic-sex comedy," Gross added. "Reviews are outstanding, while audience scores are fair."
