The 50-year-old actress and LGBT advocater reveal that her 'invitation got lost in the mail' by sharing compilation photos from her 2019 Met Gala look on Instagram.

AceShowbiz - Laverne Cox claimed she didn't attend the 2023 Met Gala because her invitation "got lost in the mail." Many online users, however, were not buying her claim and quickly trolled the "Orange Is the New Black" star online.

The 50-year-old made the declaration on her Instagram page on Monday, May 1. Sharing compilation photos from her 2019 Met Gala look, she wrote, "I will not be attending the #metgala this evening. My invitation got lost in the mail. But gurl that one time we went to the ball we got our ever loving lives. Lol."

"Four years later, I still love this look. @csiriano was like our fairy God mother, waving his magical hands, conjuring his artistic genius and creating this gown in mere weeks," she added. "This and another design of Christian's I've has the privilege to wear were included in his retrospective exhibit at @scadfash. This makes me so proud. Fashion meets art indeed. Even though I won't be in attendance I'll be celebrating the life and legacy of Mr. @karllagerfeld. Have a ball everyone!!!"

Laverne's post has since been re-shared by Hollywood Unlocked and that's where people mocked the actress. "We was not checking for you," one person wrote, while another penned, "Even the roach got an invite before her."

A different user asked, "Whooooooo? Did she deserve one? Help me Yall." Someone else chimed in, "Nobody wasn't waiting for you." The other person echoed the sentiment, "Nobody was checking for you Otis."

Referring to one of the comments, a cockroach indeed showed up on the red carpet of this year's Met Gala. The cockroach quickly caused a stir as veteran Getty Images photographer Kevin Mazur snapped a series of up-close images of it.

The photographer even faux-stomped on the insect as it went near a flight of stairs. While it remained undeterred at first, Variety reported that it met its demise before making it inside the venue. "It is with deep sadness that we must report the #MetGala cockroach was stepped on," the publication tweeted.
