The Universal Pictures family-friendly animated movie triumphs again in its fourth weekend domestically before Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' officially kicks off the summer movie calendar.

AceShowbiz - "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" remains unchallenged at box office after 26 days since its release. The CGI animated movie continues to show its superiority as it tops the domestic chart for a fourth straight weekend with an estimated $40 million.
The Universal Pictures adaptation of Nintendo's video game franchise has grossed $490 million domestically. It additionally added $68.3 million overseas for a foreign cume of $532.3 million, bringing its global tally to $1.02 million.
With its latest milestone, "Super Mario Bros." becomes only the 10th animated film to achieve the feat. It also breaks another record as the first animated movie to cross the $1B mark since pre-pandemic times.
The movie previously shattered records as the highest-grossing animated film in Universal history at the domestic box office after besting "Minions: The Rise of Gru" ($369.7 million) and the third-highest of any Universal movie behind "Jurassic World" and "E.T. The Extraterrestrial", not adjusted for inflation.
Globally, it now ranks as Universal's seventh-biggest film of all time, surpassing "Jurassic World: Dominion" and "Despicable Me".
Back to the domestic chart, "Evil Dead Rise" holds onto the runner-up place with an estimated $12.2 million. New release "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret." failed to make a loud entrance as it debuts at No. 3 with approximately $6.8 million.
"John Wick: Chapter 4" is unmatched at No. 4 with an estimated $5.8 million in its sixth week. Meanwhile, the re-release of "Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi" rounds out the top five with approximately $4.7 million from only 500 theaters.
Next week, Chris Pratt is expected to continue his winning streak as his other movie, Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3", will officially kick off the summer movie calendar. He voices the titular plumber in the "Super Mario Bros." movie.
