During an appearance on 'Headliners with Rachel Nichols', the former NBA star explains his feeling that his family would not be accepted and comfortable living in the state.

AceShowbiz - Dwyane Wade has gotten candid about him and his family moving out of Florida. During an appearance on "Headliners with Rachel Nichols", the former NBA player touched on the Sunshine State's restrictive policies on LGBTQ and openly blamed them for his decision.

In an episode to air on Thursday, April 27, the 41-year-old unveiled that the LGBTQ policies in Florida made him feel that his family would not be accepted and comfortable living in the state. "That's another reason why I don't live in that state," he began in a clip shared with PEOPLE.

The winner of three NBA championships went on to explain, "A lot of people don't know that. I have to make decisions for my family, not just personal, individual decisions." He added, "I mean, obviously, the tax [situation] is great. Having Wade County is great. But my family would not be accepted or feel comfortable there. And so that's one of the reasons why I don't live there."

Elsewhere in the interview, Dwyane talked about his way of parenting which he attributes in part to his father's example. "I tell my dad all the time, I'm just a mirror image of the way he loved us and the way that he accepted not only myself and my brothers but other kids in the community that didn't have father figures," he stated.

"And so I don't know any difference. And so yes, I had to educate myself and yes, I had to get a better understanding. And yes, I had to lose some friends along the process, but I never wavered on loving my kids and trying to find space to get the chance to understand them," he continued.

Dwyane is a father to 20-year-old Zaire and 15-year-old transgender model Zaya Wade, whom he shared with ex-wife Siovaughn Funches. He is also a father to 9-year-old son, Xavier, from his relationship with Aja Metoyer. The NBA star also has 4-year-old daughter, Kavia, with current wife Gabrielle Union.
