AceShowbiz - Sen. Ted Cruz has assured his daughter is "okay" after police responded to his home earlier this week. His teenage daughter was taken to the hospital with self-inflicted stab wounds, according to multiple outlets.
Houston PD was called to the Texas Senator's home in River Oaks neighborhood on Tuesday night, December 6 following a report that a 14-year-old had "self-inflicted stab wounds to their arm." The teen was rushed to a hospital for treatment. Police were in the front yard of Cruz's home when ABC13 arrived.
Police could not say whether the call involved a member of Cruz's family or who made the 911 call. The Republican senator lives in the house with his wife Heidi and their two daughters, ages 11 and 14. It's also unclear if the senator was home at the time of the incident.
A spokesperson for Cruz, however, has said in a statement to the press, "This is a family matter and thankfully their daughter is okay." The office added, "There were no serious injuries." Requesting privacy in light of the incident, the rep said, "The family requests the media respect their daughter's privacy at this time."
The medical emergency arrives after Cruz confirmed last month that he would be seeking reelection in the U.S. Senate in 2024. If he wins, it will be the 51-year-old's third consecutive term. "I'm running for reelection in the Senate, I'm focused on the battles in the United States Senate," he said, as quoted by the Texas Tribune.
The incumbent senator previously stated, "We need a real debate about how are we going to lead during the next two years in the minority in the U.S. Senate."
Cruz is seemingly also open to the possibility of running for the presidency. After being asked if he would be a possible candidate in the upcoming election, the Harvard Law School graduate reportedly stated, "There'll be plenty of time to discuss [the] 2024 presidential."
