The 'Aquaman' actress and the 'Pirates of the Carribean' actor go head-to-head on the list of the most googled celebrities of the year due to their much-publicized defamation trial.

AceShowbiz - Amber Heard and Johnny Depp's bitter split has helped them earn the title of the most googled celebrities of the year. The former spouses go head-to-head on the top of the list of Google's most-searched celebs of 2022, based on research by Hollywood news site CelebTattler.

The site analyzed data points from Google search trends in 2022, tracking over 150 notable celebrities before crowning the Mera depicter in "Aquaman" as No. 1 with 5,651,700 monthly searches. Her former husband follows close behind as the runner-up with 5,565,100 monthly searches. While the 36-year-old actress was the most googled in sheer volume of searches, 34 out of 50 states searched for the "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor more than any other A-lister.

Both Amber and Johnny were embroiled in nasty court battles since their split in 2016 that culminated in their defamation trial. The trial, which took place for roughly six weeks from April until early June, was widely covered on various media outlets, but the couple keeps piquing fans' interests in the aftermath of the verdict.

According to the site, Queen Elizabeth II is in third place of the most googled celebrities of the year, with 4.3 million searches per month. Tom Brady places fourth with headlines about his NFL retirement and his separation from Gisele Bundchen. He generates an average of 4,061,900 clicks per month.

Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson rank fifth and sixth on the list for the obvious reason, their romantic relationship. The former lovebirds have around 3,479,700 and 3,291,000 clicks per month respectively.

The ex-couple is followed by Elon Musk, Will Smith, Millie Bobby Brown and Zendaya Coleman. The new Twitter owner generates a monthly average search of 3,193,000 with his controversies since taking over the platform. Will gained popularity after he slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, generating 3,155,900 monthly searches.

The "Stranger Things" actress places ninth with 2,782,600 monthly clicks, thanks largely in part to her role on the hit Netflix series. The "Euphoria" star, meanwhile, lands at the tenth spot of the list with 2,718,300 monthly searches after winning best leading actress at the Emmys.

"This year has certainly not been lacking when it comes to celebrity news stories, whether it be Elon Musk taking over Twitter or the 'Don't Worry Darling' behind the scenes drama," a spokesperson from CelebTattler told The Post in a statement, though Harry Styles doesn't make the cut for the top 10. He lands in the top 15 along with Taylor Swift, LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Ryan Reynolds.

"This study offers a fascinating insight into which celebrities have had the biggest impact on the American people and it will be interesting to see if these search figures rise or fall in 2023," the spokesperson added.
