AceShowbiz - Blair Underwood finds his new soul mate somewhere not too far from him, one year after officially ending his more than two decades of marriage. The actor has announced he got engaged to Josie Hart after 41 years of friendship.
The "City of Angels" alum revealed his engagement after he and Josie made their red carpet debut as a couple at the 2022 International Emmys on Monday, November 21. Sharing a photo of the couple at the event, he wrote on Instagram on Tuesday, "My personal highlight was walking the red carpet with my new fiancee Josie Hart. The most amazing, brilliant, beautiful, hilarious, thought provoking & insightful person I know who continuously lives life out-loud."
"The future is crazy-bright Girl! None of us ever know where God will guide our paths," the 58-year-old continued of sharing a life together with his soon-to-be wife. "She's had my back since before I even became an actor. When a 41 year friendship slaps you in the back of the head & blossoms into romance, you stand up, pay attention & step forward in gratitude. Gently forward. It begins!"
Blair soon received congratulatory messages from his famous friends. Yvette Nicole Brown wrote underneath his post, "Congrats, friend!" Niecy Nash simply penned, "Issa fiance [ring emojis.]" Meanwhile, Sherri Shepherd joked, "Somebody call 9-1-1 - my breathing is laboured and I can’t feel my heart beat anymore. okay I revived myself! Congrats Blair and Josie - glad you got someone in your corner [a red heart emoji]."
It's unclear how long Blair and Josie have been dating, but the exciting news comes just a little over a year after he announced his split from Desiree DaCosta, his wife of 27 years. They were married from 1994 until their divorce was finalized last year. They have three children together, sons Paris, 25, and Blake, 21, and daughter Brielle, 23.
While Blair's friends are happy for his engagement, fans have mixed feelings about it. Not trusting the nature of Blair and Josie's relationship before they're officially a couple, one person reacted to the news, "That's why iont trust 'that's just my friend' s**t."
Agreeing, another remarked, "see this why i'm my man girl best friend." A third person similarly added, "Ouch, well I guess she wasn't just a friend. That's why I never everrrrr buy that bullsh**#."
Some others, meanwhile, defended the happy couple. "Blair Underwood marrying someone who has been a friend for over 30+ plus years weird to y'all?" one person argued, "I don't think so, he had been married in the past and I believe so was she! They were young AF- before his fame when they met! Sometimes what you need been right there all along!"
