AceShowbiz - A young boxer has tragically lost his life in a domestic altercation. Detroit middleweight Isiah Jones died after he was shot in the head during a dispute with a family member on Monday evening, September 19. He was only 28 years old.
Isiah's trainer Roshawn Jones, who is not blood related to the late boxer, confirmed the sad news on Tuesday. He told The Ring that Isaiah had been arguing with his brother before it turned deadly.
Roshawn also uploaded an emotional post on Instagram, showing highlights of the fighter's life, including his fights and media coverage on his murder. Parts of the footage show what looks like the crime scene.
In the caption, Roshawn wrote, "Isaiah Jones (9-7-0) is a Pro Boxer out of Detroit, Michigan, a fellow member of Soul City Boxing and Wrestling Gym, our last fight was against Roy jones jr Promotion Team!" He added, "Isaiah, Lost his life yesterday in a tragic event! Please keep his family in your prayers to help them get through these rough times!"
Roshawn turned off the comments on his post, but fans and friends have taken to the comment section of Isiah's own last Instagram post to express their condolences. "RIP," one user simply wrote. Another said, "I love u so much," while a third person added, "Rest up bro."
The Detroit Police Department confirmed that a 28-year-old male was shot and killed by a relative at approximately 6:26 P.M. on the 9300 block of Stout Street, but wouldn't name the victim. The authorities said no further information was available as a murder investigation is currently underway. No arrests have been made so far.
Isaiah posted a professional record of 9-7 (3 knockouts) and had an amateur record of 52-2. He turned pro after winning the 2016 National Golden Gloves and also fought on DAZN.
Speaking to The Ring, Roshawn remembered Isaiah, "Him not turning down fights, every fight that he took, the odds were stacked against him. He had enough heart and courage to take them. He could have taken the easier route and just padded his record."
Roshawn went on noting that Isiah had two children and would often take difficult fights just to provide for them. "He was a very great father, he provided for his kids. He was a hard worker," he said of his mentee. "Everyone is not perfect in life but he was a good human being. He'd make you smile and laugh and was a great role model in the gym. Very humble and respectful."
