Despite their performance being censored after Damiano David shows his bare booty, the Italian glam rock band takes home the Best Alternative Video for their 'I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE'.

AceShowbiz - The 2022 MTV VMAs is facing heavy criticism on social media. Fans and viewers at home have slammed the award show for censoring half of Maneskin's performance due to singer Damiano David's bare butt.

On Sunday night, August 28, the Italian glam rock band took the stage at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. For the special night, they performed their hit single "SUPERMODEL" from their latest album with a similar name.

When belting out the song, Damiano, who wore nothing but mini black leather underpants with no cover on his butt and a pair of matching high boots, turned his body to show off his bare bottoms. "Way back in high school, when she was a good Christian," he sings as he wiggles his booty.

Shortly after his racy stage act, MTV cut half of Maneskin's performance by switching the front-view camera to the far-away shot. Despite trying to censor the raunchy stage act, MTV posted to their Instagram and Twitter accounts a closer look at Damiano's bum. "We see you, @thisismaneskin! [peach emoji]," they captioned their posts.

Though so, many social media critics slammed the award show for censoring half of Maneskin's performance. "Why u posted this after cutting half his performance to this camera angle?" one person replied to MTV's tweet along with a photo from a high-angle camera. "Do we??? I dont think we actually do because the CAMERA F**KED UP," another fumed.

"I waited until 5:30 am for them and you show us 30% of their performances," someone else pointed out, with another echoing, "Waited all night through this s**tty show only to have their performance cut constantly to an empty theater. Wtf." A separate user added, "They would've been the most iconic performance this year if y'all didn't sensor them."

Others, in the meantime, suggested that MTV was trying to avoid Maneskin's bassist Victoria De Angelis to free her nipples during her performance, which she often does. "Free BOOBS #VMAs #maneskin @vmas u scared?"

Though the censorship provoked Maneskin's fans anger, the group won the Best Alternative Video for their "I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE". They successfully beat Avril Lavigne (featuring Blackbear) for "Love It When You Hate Me", Imagine Dragons x JID for "Enemy", Machine Gun Kelly featuring Willow Smith for "Emo Girl", Panic At the Disco's "Viva Las Vengeance", Twenty One Pilots for "Saturday" and Willow and Avril featuring Travis Barker on "Grow".

Expressing gratitude, Maneskin thanked their fans for their outpouring support on Instagram. "I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE is now Best Alternative Video!!!!! Thanks to @MTV and the @vmas + everyone who supported us for this adrenaline rush, we love you," they captioned a photo of them posing with their new trophy.
