In the new trailer for the upcoming thriller, Bernthal's Julian Kaye is released from prison 15 years after the wrongful murder conviction, which is chronicled in the original 1980 film.

AceShowbiz - Showtime has treated fans to a new trailer of its upcoming "American Gigolo" remake. Unveiled on Thursday, August 18, the new video sees Jon Bernthal's Julian Kaye being given a second chance before he's trying to do himself justice.

The trailer opens with Kaye being released from prison 15 years after the wrongful murder conviction, which is chronicled in the original 1980 film starring Richard Gere and Lauren Hutton. Detective Sunday, portrayed by Rosie O'Donnell, can be seen telling to Kaye, "DNA results came back conclusive, you're a free man."

As soon as he's released, Kaye comes to his former lover Michelle, who is portrayed by Gretchen Mol on the forthcoming series. "I didn't hurt that girl, you were right," Kaye tells Michelle, who responds, "You can't be here." When he's about to leave, Michelle runs to hug him. However, she quickly pushes him away because "he'll do it again."

Elsewhere in the trailer, Kaye says, "I'm not the same guy that I used to be. I changed." He's also determined to solve the murder mystery as he vows, "I'm going to find out who did this."

The official logline of the the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced series reads, "While Julian struggles to reconcile the escort he was in the past and the man he is today, Detective Sunday seeks the truth about the murder that sent Julian to prison all those years ago, unearthing a much larger conspiracy along the way." The description also notes that Kaye will not only confront his relationship with Michelle, but also his "troubled mother and the people who betrayed him."

The new series also stars Lizzie Brochere, Gabriel LaBelle, Leland Orser, Wayne Brady and Laura Liguori. The remake was originally developed by David Hollander before he left the project last April following his misconduct allegations. Alongside Bruckheimer and Bernthal, Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed serve as executive producers, with Paramount Television Studios producing.

"American Gigolo" will premiere on September 9 on Showtime.
